Arriving on the Friday afternoon, I went down to the beach for a looksee. The Coolum Kite Festival Committee was in full swing and very busy setting everything up, but the weather was awful. I stood on the bank wishing for a warm jumper and cowering in a fine mist of rain, I had been hoping to squeeze in a buggy on the beach, and probably could have if I were braver, but I cowardly returned to the Motel instead. The weather was forecast to clear, and really there's not much to be done about it but hope that the guys at the Met. Office weren't telling fibs.

And clear it did, not so much the beautiful sunny Queensland weather we'd all hoped for but enough to get the kites up and start having some fun. The crowds were nice and steady on both days and it was lovely again to be at Coolum, catch up on some old faces and revisit some new ones along the way. And the chance to chat to some of the local passerbys as they watched the kites go up (and come down sometimes), people are always interested in the kites and how it all goes together.

I did miss some of the antics and displays, but managed to catch bits and pieces on hurried photo taking trips. There were some good displays down on the front tho, with Ray Bethel impressing the crowds and various team flying and kite buggy displays. The crowd always seemed to be 2 -3 deep along the barriers, so their flying was well appreciated. The only place I never got to was over to the otherside of the creek where Ron Gibian had his display, he had a good corner to himself, but commented later that it was quite lonely way over yonder. Helloo Ron!! I think we were lucky with the weather all weekend, as on Sunday afternoon, the sky gave us one parting shot and drenched all the kites still up. It was a good excuse to head back to the beach on a beautiful sunny Monday morning to dry everything out and shake out all the sand. Thanks again to the Coolum Kite Festival Committee and their army of volunteers who did such a great job and were always willing hands when we needed assistance.
